Introducing the Raptor Safe Program (RSP)
Eco-Friendly Rodent Control That Protects Birds of Prey

At 1st Pest Control, we’re always seeking smarter, greener ways to protect your home—and the environment. We’re proud to offer our Raptor Safe Program (RSP), an innovative approach to rodent control that helps reduce the use of potentially harmful rodenticides while protecting the delicate balance of our local ecosystem.
FGARs (First-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides) and SGARs (Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides) are both chemicals used to kill rats and mice, but they work in different ways. FGARs, like warfarin and diphacinone, require rodents to eat them multiple times before the poison takes effect. SGARs, on the other hand, are much stronger—just one meal is enough to be lethal.
Both types pose dangers to raptors and other predators. When a bird of prey eats a poisoned rodent, the toxins build up in its body, leading to internal bleeding, a weakened immune system, and even death. Since these poisons linger in rodent carcasses for a long time, they continue to harm wildlife even after the rodent has died.
Even though SGARs are known to be more dangerous and are for the most part banned in BC, FGARs are still widely used. Because of this, raptors remain at risk of secondary poisoning, which threatens their survival and disrupts ecosystems. Many conservation groups advocate for safer alternatives to protect these birds from further harm.

The Core Of The Raptor Safe Program
With the Raptor Safe Program, we can assist in reducing the risk of secondary poisoning, allowing for safe, effective rodent control with zero toxic residues. Raptor Safe Program utilizes Ekomille trapping system, a state-of-the-art, non-toxic device designed to humanely eliminate rodents without the use of poisons.
Ekomille provides a solution that removes toxic poisons from it’s application. Unlike chemical rodenticides, Ekomille works mechanically, using natural bait to attract rodents into a sealed unit where they are captured and euthanized without poison. This method ensures that rodent carcasses are safely contained and remain inaccessible to birds of prey and other wildlife.
By eliminating the need for toxic chemicals through the use of Ekomille, this helps maintain the health of food chains and contributes to the stability of ecosystems where raptors play a key role. It also supports conservation efforts by aligning with wildlife protection laws and pesticide regulations.
Ekomille is not just a rodent control device—it is a critical part of a broader strategy to preserve biodiversity and ensure that birds of prey can thrive in both rural and urban landscapes.
Why It Matters
Environmental Preservation
By reducing the use of rodenticides, the program helps maintain ecological balance and biodiversity.
Raptor Health and Safety
Protects raptors from secondary poisoning and promotes their natural role in pest control.
Community Engagement
Involves local communities in sustainable practices, fostering awareness and cooperation.
Who Should Choose the Raptor Safe Program?
